Spider-Man: No Way Home initially promised the debut of a thrilling comic book villain in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. However, Sony stepped in to safeguard an upcoming cinematic gem. This blockbuster event brought together Tom Holland, Andrew Garfield, and Tobey Maguire’s Spideys, joining forces against foes from their respective timelines.
While iconic adversaries like Green Goblin, Doc Ock, Electro, Sandman, and the Lizard made their mark, Marvel Studios had to forfeit their original pick.
As per revelations in the MCU: The Reign of Marvel Studios book (as reported by The Direct), Marvel’s vision for Kraven the Hunter in Spider-Man: No Way Home was dashed by Sony’s strategic plans for the character. It turns out that writers Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers pitched Kraven as the film’s formidable foe, only to learn that he was ‘off-limits until Sony established him in a standalone adventure.’
One such eagerly anticipated Marvel-Sony venture is ‘Kraven the Hunter,’ headlined by Aaron Taylor-Johnson. Holland has previously shared insights into Spider-Man: No Way Home’s initial concept. His complete statement can be found below:
“For a long time, there was going to be a Kraven movie that was going to be the third movie because things weren’t working out and all sorts of different stuff. Jon pitched me this Kraven movie, which actually was really cool. I don’t want to talk about it in case that movie ends up happening down the line, but it was fun.”

In Spider-Man 4, Holland’s Peter faces his toughest challenge yet. Alone and stripped of tech, he confronts Kraven the Hunter, a relentless foe. This showdown in New York promises the classic, gritty Spidey tale fans have clamored for.
With a mature tone, it’s a perfect fit for the post-high school Peter. Despite Taylor-Johnson’s past MCU role, Sony’s solo movie plan opens the door for him to join the multiverse, expanding on the events of No Way Home.
