In the realm of Indian cinema, the epic saga Jawan is approaching the final curtain after an extraordinary month-long theatrical journey that shattered nearly every conceivable record. As it steps into its sixth weekend on the big screen, Red Chillies Entertainment reports a staggering global box office collection of ₹1,125 crore, roughly equivalent to $136 million.
Unless an unforeseen surge occurs, Jawan is poised to etch its name as the second-highest grossing Hindi-language film in global box office annals.
Fronted by the legendary Shah Rukh Khan, a luminary who has dominated the Indian film landscape for over three decades, Jawan debuted shortly after SRK’s triumphant return in Pathaan following a nearly five-year hiatus. Pathaan concluded its global journey with $130 million, previously holding many of the records that Jawan would ultimately surpass.
Throughout its tenure, Jawan unveiled unprecedented milestones, seizing the titles of highest-grossing opening day, opening weekend, and opening week in Hindi cinema history. It also claimed the crown for the highest single-day earnings ever for a Hindi film and became the inaugural Hindi production to cross the ₹600 crore ($72 million) threshold in India alone.
Domestically, the film stands at a towering $90 million — a new pinnacle for Hindi cinema. Internationally, including the U.S., Jawan has raked in just over $45 million, with a domestic haul of $14.7 million, recently surpassing last year’s ‘RRR’.
‘Jawan‘ ranks as the second-highest-grossing Bollywood film globally, trailing behind 2016’s Dangal which earned approximately $300 million, mainly from China.
However, in the broader Indian film landscape, it holds the fifth position, preceded by regional hits like KGF: Chapter 2 and Telugu blockbusters RRR and Baahubali 2: The Conclusion, along with Dangal. While ‘RRR’ is in Telugu, ‘Jawan’ falls under the Bollywood (Hindi-language) category.

To broaden its audience, the film was released in dubbed Tamil and Telugu versions. Directed by Atlee, ‘Jawan‘ features Nayanthara and Vijay Sethupathi in pivotal roles, aiming to enhance its crossover appeal.
Atlee infused the film with a vibrant South Indian style, characterized by slow-motion sequences, intricate flashbacks, and incisive social commentary. In ‘Jawan‘, Shah Rukh Khan portrays both a vigilant cop and a military veteran father. The film is still running in theaters and will soon be available on Netflix.
