Adam Sandler Embraces Life’s Adventures in the Latest ‘Leo’ Trailer

Life in a cramped terrarium can be suffocating, especially for a spirited lizard like Leo. In Netflix‘s upcoming animated film, Leo, we’re invited into Leo’s glass-bound world. Fueled by a desire for more, Leo is determined to seize every moment he has left. With the movie set to premiere on November 21, Netflix has unveiled the official trailer.

The movie revolves around a 74-year-old lizard named Leo (played by Adam Sandler) and his terrarium companion, Squirtle the turtle (voiced by Bill Burr). These two creatures have held court as class pets in the same Florida elementary school for decades.

Seventy-four years is an impressive lifespan for a lizard, so when Leo learns he only has a year left, he resolves to make it count. To truly savor the remaining moments, he must break free and explore what lies beyond. Yet, in his pursuit of seizing the day, Leo finds himself entangled in the worries of his young students, setting off an unexpected and surprisingly fulfilling adventure.

The trailer swiftly underscores the toll of being class pets for so long on Leo and Squirtle. Though they put on a brave front for the kids (who don’t seem overly enthused), it’s become routine.

Leo, despite being a lizard, grapples with the same existential questions as humans, including confronting his own mortality after a casual comment about his age. However, a glimmer of hope emerges in his daring escape plan, during which a student discovers Leo’s ability to speak.

The latter part of the trailer takes a heartwarming turn as Leo discovers that connecting with the kids through conversation brings boundless joy to everyone involved.

The script for Leo was penned by Sandler in collaboration with his frequent creative partners Robert Smigel (known for Saturday Night Live and Hotel Transylvania 2) and Paul Sado (credited for The Cobbler and Sandy Wexler). The film was helmed by Robert Marianetti (from Saturday Night Live) and David Wachtenheim (also from Saturday Night Live), with Sandler’s production company, Happy Madison Productions, taking the reins.

In addition to Sandler and Burr, Leo boasts an impressive ensemble of voice talents, including Smigel, Cecily Strong, Rob Schneider, Jason Alexander, Stephanie Hsu, Jo Koy, Heidi Gardner, Nick Swardson, Nicholas Turturro, and members of Sandler’s own family, including Sadie Sandler, Sunny Sandler, and Jackie Sandler.
