Rumor: Warner Bros. Ditches ‘Aquaman and The Lost Kingdom’

A recent rumor is saying that Warner Bros. might have decided not to make their next movie, Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom, also known as Aquaman 2.

The DCEU (DC Extended Universe) is nearing its conclusion with Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. This has been a lengthy journey, and things don’t seem to be improving. In fact, a recent report suggests that Warner Bros. has completely abandoned Aquaman 2.

With all the controversies surrounding co-star Amber Heard, James Gunn rebooting the DC franchise, and ongoing strikes in Hollywood, it’s been challenging to predict how Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom will turn out. If the recent report is true, it suggests that Warner Bros. may have already labeled the movie as a failure.

Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is the next movie after Warner Bros.’ big success in 2018 with Aquaman. The first film made $335 million in the United States and a whopping $1.14 billion all around the world.

Warner Bros. has been quite sluggish in promoting the movie, and now it might make sense why. It appears the studio is cautious about investing heavily in advertising for a film they don’t think will do well. We’ve already witnessed a similar situation with The Flash, which didn’t perform as expected despite the buzz before its release.

@TheComixKid quote-retweeted another Twitter user @WhenBatmenFly, who tweeted, ‘Aquaman 2 is coming out in 3 months and still no trailer. Why is no one panicking?’

“Because they know it’s bad,” claims KC Walsh on X when alleging why Warner Bros isn’t allocating a budget in marketing the film. “They know it’ll lose money, and they aren’t putting a marketing budget behind it at all.”

Although there was a previous rumor that Warner Bros. might delay Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom to 2024, which could explain the current lack of marketing, the studio has not officially made that change yet.

If the movie studio is indeed going to release Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom on December 20, it’s quite astonishing that there hasn’t been much advertising. So far, the only footage we’ve seen is a short 30-second clip.

The studio revealed a complete trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom at CinemaCon 2023, as part of Warner Bros.’ presentation in April. However, this trailer has not been made available to the public yet.
