Good Omens Season 3:Douglas Mackinnon Not Returning 

Neil Gaiman’s fantasy series, Good Omens, is on the verge of securing a Season 3 renewal from Amazon and the BBC which will not include Douglas Mackinnon.

In preparation for what could be the final chapter of the show, the contracts for the Good Omens series’ main cast, including Michael Sheen and David Tennant, have been extended. However, there is notable news regarding the departure of Mackinnon. He played a significant role in the show’s first two seasons as an executive producer, director, and co-showrunner. Mackinnon shared his exit from Good Omens on Instagram.

Responding to an ongoing challenge related to the SAG-AFTRA strike, he posted an image from the set of the Prime Video/BBC Two series. While he didn’t explicitly mention the show, fans recognized the set, and this initiated a discussion about Good Omens.

Mackinnon responded, “I’m not involved with this show anymore.” This revelation stirred some concerns about the future of Good Omens 3. Leading a fan to ask series creator, executive producer and co-showrunner Gaiman about the director’s status on the Bluesky platform. His answer: “Douglas has moved on to other projects.”

According to Deadline, Nonetheless, Season 3 seems quite likely, with Season 2, which was released in August, reportedly performing well. Prime Video even boasted it as the #1 comedy on the platform worldwide shortly after its debut.

Gaiman has indicated that Season 3 will draw inspiration from his and Terry Pratchett’s unfinished sequel to the original book. This sequel is expected to bring the story to its conclusion. Gaiman mentioned, “No, there won’t be an S4.”

The show’s ensemble cast is led by Jon Hamm, who portrays Gabriel, the leader of the forces of Heaven. Good Omens is a collaborative production involving Amazon Studios, BBC Studios Productions.
