Switzerland has been announced as the Country of Honor for the upcoming 2024 edition of the Cannes Film Market, scheduled to take place from May 14 to May 22.
In a tribute to Switzerland’s noteworthy contributions to the audiovisual industry, Cannes will provide a platform for emerging Swiss talents and projects in development.
The event will be organized by Swiss Films in collaboration with the Swiss Federal Office of Culture and the Swiss Broadcasting Corporation SRG SSR. A delegation comprising Swiss filmmakers, producers, and industry experts is anticipated to participate in various key events throughout the market, spanning fiction and non-fiction feature films, as well as immersive projects and innovation.
According to variety, Switzerland consistently ranks among the top ten countries at the Cannes market. Adding to Switzerland’s cinematic recognition, the European Film Awards will be hosted in Lucerne in December 2024.
Alain Berset, President of the Swiss Confederation, emphasized Switzerland’s appeal as a hub for co-productions and its leadership in AI and animation. Switzerland becomes the third Country of Honor, following India in 2022 and Spain in 2023.
The previous edition of the Cannes Film Market drew a record 14,000 professionals, featuring over 4,000 films and projects in development, along with 200 networking events. The announcement solidifies Switzerland’s position as a leading force in cinematic innovation and creativity on the global stage.
