Taylor Kinney Sets Chicago Fire Return for Season 12

Kelly Severide is set to make a return to the firehouse in the upcoming 12th season of Chicago Fire.

Taylor Kinney, who temporarily left the show during Season 11, will reprise his role in the new season. While the exact number of episodes he will appear in hasn’t been confirmed, sources indicate that his return will happen early in the season.

In January, the actor stepped away from the NBC procedural to deal with a personal matter. Kinney last appeared in the 14th episode of Season 11, which aired in February.

According to Variety, in the March 1 episode, his character did not appear; Severide had left town to go to an arson investigation training program, jumping at an opportunity that was too big to pass up.

Although he didn’t return for the Season 11 finale, Jesse Spencer, who left the show in 2021, made a guest appearance. Spencer has made several post-departure appearances and even proposed to Sylvie Brett (Kara Killmer) during the finale, indicating he might return in the upcoming season.

As the new season’s writing process is underway, a premiere date has not been announced yet due to the ongoing SAG-AFTRA strike.

Andrea Newman, who was formerly co-showrunner with Derek Haas, will be in charge of Chicago Fire Season 12, while Haas, the series co-creator, departed from Wolf Entertainment after Season 11.

One Chicago universe, with actors like Nick Gehlfuss and Jesse Lee Soffer leaving their respective shows. Chicago Fire is produced by Universal Television and Wolf Entertainment.
