Rian Johnson Shares Encouraging ‘Knives Out 3’ Progress Update

Rian Johnson, the visionary behind Star Wars: The Last Jedi, is set to unravel another elaborate mystery in Knives Out 3. In an interview with The Wrap, Johnson discussed the pace at which he’s crafting this new tale, acknowledging the need for deep concentration.

As in Knives Out and Glass Onion, Johnson is poised to concoct an intricate puzzle for his beloved protagonist, Detective Benoit Blanc, with a promise of a star-studded ensemble. While details on the third installment are scarce, one can safely assume that Johnson will once again thrust Blanc into an entirely unexpected setting. And it appears that this aspect has already been determined:

“It’s coming along. I obviously couldn’t work during the strike, and now that it’s over, I’m diving in full force, and so it’s coming along. I’ve got the premise, I’ve got the setting, I’ve got what the movie is in my head. It’s just a matter of writing the damn thing.”

Rian Johnson’s ingenious twist in the first Knives Out installment, revealing the victim’s fate upfront, set the stage for an audacious billionaire murder on a secluded island. The question now lingers: how will he top this?

While Daniel Craig is confirmed, the rest of the ensemble remains a mystery, as is customary in murder-mystery franchises. Faces like Janelle Monáe or Ana de Armas may make a return, given their proximity to Benoit Blanc in earlier chapters.

As Johnson crafts the script for Knives Out 3, updates may be on hold, particularly with the SAG-AFTRA strike looming. Nonetheless, the director’s unwavering commitment suggests a possible Netflix release in 2024. Until then, revisiting the previous two chapters is the best way to pass the time.
