Colman Domingo, who was just nominated for an Emmy for his performance in the drama series “Euphoria,” will executive produce the P.J. Palmer short film “North Star,” in which he also stars.
Domingo portrays a patriotic and diligent rancher in “North Star,” as well as one half of a middle-aged, same-sex relationship. Craig, his other half, is terminally ill; Malcolm Gets, a Tony Award candidate, plays Craig. When Craig’s sister Erin (played by Audrey Wasilewski on Mad Men) shows up unexpectedly to whisk him away to spend his final days with his “true” family, tensions start to build.
The film also stars Kevin Bacon from “Footloose” and Laura Innes from “Deep Impact” as televangelists who “promote shame, fear, and division as the cornerstones of faith.”
The “The Maze Runner” Chris Sheffield completes the ensemble.
In addition to winning the Programmer’s Choice Award at the Cleveland International Film Festival, the audience choice award for best short at the San Luis Obispo International Film Festival, and the best short award at the Hill Country Film Festival, where Domingo also won an award for best actor, “North Star” has been screened at festivals and qualified for the Oscars.
Domingo, who played Victor Strand in “Fear the Walking Dead” and is likely most recognised for those roles, will also make appearances in “The Color Purple,” “Rustin,” and another short film named “New Moon.”
