Bodies Won’t Get a Season 2?

Bodies writer Paul Tomalin casts doubt on a second season.

Bodies, which recently premiered on Netflix, has quickly gained popularity as an unexpected hit. This series, adapted from the DC Vertigo comics of the same name, unfolds a murder mystery that spans decades, revealing patterns seen by different investigators. The complex storyline has propelled it to the top of Netflix’s most-watched list, sparking speculation about a possible second season.

In a recent interview with Hello!, the show’s writer, Tomalin, revealed that there are currently no plans for a Season 2. “We went to Netflix like ‘this is one series, this is a one and done, we wanna close this off’ because I think when you have such an amazing concept up front, you [expletive] your audience off if you don’t solve it,” Tomalin explained. “As the viewer, I hate it when you get this amazing thing, and at the end it’s like, ‘duh, duh, duh,’ and you’re like ‘right so I’ve got to wait a year and a half’.

Tomalin expressed a preference for providing viewers with a satisfying conclusion rather than leaving them hanging for another season. Bodies was originally created by Si Spencer, featuring artwork by Dean Ormston, Tula Lotay, Meghan Hetrick, and Phil Winslade.

It first appeared under DC’s Vertigo label in 2014. The show follows four detectives from different time periods who discover the same murder victim in London’s Whitechapel. As they investigate, they uncover a mysterious conspiracy spanning more than 150 years.

The creators of the story felt it was their duty to give the audience a proper ending, so they wanted viewers to feel like they had reached the end of the story when they watched it. However, they left a little something to make you curious about what might happen next.

Despite this, Bodies came to a good conclusion. They thought it was a privilege to give you a whole, satisfying experience, like a full meal with dessert and coffee, even if there’s no second season. In other words, they wanted to make sure you felt satisfied with how things wrapped up.

The series consists of eight episodes and premiered on Netflix on 19 October 2023.
