Mendy has pleaded not guilty to these charges, and the trial is expected to span a period of two to three weeks. The specific accusations involve an alleged attempted rape incident in 2018 and a separate accusation of rape in October 2020.
Notably, Mendy has been absent from Manchester City’s lineup for quite some time, and it has been confirmed that he will depart from the club upon the expiration of his contract at the end of June. Since his arrest in August 2021, he has remained suspended by the club.
The French footballer joined Manchester City in 2017 from Monaco for a transfer fee of £52 million. Despite facing frequent injury setbacks, he achieved three Premier League titles and various domestic cup victories during his tenure at the club.
