The BBC released a teaser clip as a holiday gift to fans in anticipation of the 2023 premiere of a new season of Doctor Who. The Tenth Doctor, played by David Tennant, reappears as the Fourteenth doc before Ncuti Gatwa, the Fifteenth Doctor, because Jodie Whittaker’s Thirteenth doc has left the show.
Donna Noble, played by Catherine Tate, is shown in the preview to be in some sort of mood. “Sometimes, I think there’s something missing,†she says. “Like I had something lovely and it’s gone.â€
Tennant’s Doctor emerges saying, “I don’t know who I am anymore.†Donna Noble is seemingly in danger as the Fourteenth doc says that if she ever remembers him “she will die.â€
Gatwa’s presence comes at the end of the teaser asking, “Will someone tell me what the hell is going on here?â€
In a statement earlier this year, showrunner Russell T. Davies hinted to the new season, saying, “If you thought David Tennant’s arrival was a shock, we’ve got plenty more surprises on the way! The road leading to Ncuti’s 15th doc is paved with mystery, terror, robots, puppets, peril, and fun! And how does it relate to Donna Noble’s welcome comeback? What, how, and why? We’ll give you a year to make your predictions, and then the devil breaks loose!
Additionally, Neil Patrick Harris will appear in the upcoming season.
In 2023, Doctor Who will mark its 60th year on television since its premiere in 1963.
