Adult Swim has cut its ties with Justin Roiland but the show Rick and Morty will continue for its new season.
Adult Swim, a late-night cable channel that co-airs with Cartoon Network on basic cable and has programming created by Williams Street, the company’s in-house production studio. It is also a component of the Warner Bros, American media empire. Adult Swim ended its association with Justin Roiland following domestic abuse charges.
Roiland voiced both the titular Rick and Morty in the popular adult animated comedy series Rick and Morty, which he also co-created and executive produced. Dan Harmon will now be the only showrunner but Roiland will always be listed as a co-creator. The program has a contract through season 10.
The voice-over for the characters of Rick and Morty will also be recast. Roiland was charged with one count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud, or deceit in Orange Count. The charges stem from an alleged incident with Jane Doe whom Roiland was dating at the time. NBC News was the first to report the news.
Even though Roiland and Adult Swim are not associated with each other, the adult comedy series will be continued with some new voiceover artists for the characters of Rick and Morty.
