1899 has been canceled by Netflix after season 1.

Jantje Friese and Baran bo Odar are the creators of the bilingual German historical mystery-science fiction television series. On November 17, 2022, Netflix announced its debut. The majority of the reviews in the media have been favorable, praising the film’s acting, directing, photography, and casting. However, some have criticized the film’s tempo as being too slow. Although the show’s makers had plans for two more seasons.

The star cast in the series is Andreas Pietschmann, Emily Beecham, Mathilde Ollivier, Miguel Bernardeau, Lucas Lynggaard, Aneurin Barnard, Maciej Musiał, Clara Rosager, Isabella Wei, José Pimentão, Fflyn Edwards, Alexandre Willaume. Beecham played the lead role in the series.

On September 12, 2022, the 47th Toronto International Film Festival hosted the two-part premiere of 1899. On November 17, 2022, the Netflix original series and Making 1899, a companion making-of-film, were both released.

A few days following its release, Netflix revealed that 1899 was the most-watched title among all of its current offers in 58 different countries.

The makers announced the news that the show has been canceled. They said, “With a heavy heart we have to tell you that 1899 will not be renewed. We would have loved to finish this incredible journey with a 2nd and 3rd season as we did with Dark. But sometimes things don’t turn out the way you planned.”
