In The Summer I Turned Pretty, Belly played by Lola Tung eventually picked one of the Fisher brothers, and her decision didn’t remain hidden for too long.
In the recent episode titled Love Affair of the show, Jeremiah played by Gavin Casalegno consoled Belly after her mother Laurel played by Jackie Chung slapped her following a wild house party.
This made Belly realize that Jeremiah has been a constant support for her. As a result, she made the decision that her relationship with Conrad played by Christopher Briney is over, even though Jeremiah believes that there will always be a connection between her and his older brother.
While Belly was sorting out her feelings, she, Jeremiah, and Conrad pulled an all-nighter to assist Conrad in preparing for his final exam.
They went on a road trip to ensure Conrad reached his exam on schedule. During his test, Belly and Jeremiah shared a romantic day exploring Finch College, leading to an intense make-out session.
Unfortunately, their timing was off, as Conrad finished his exam and stumbled upon them passionately kissing in front of the car. Quite an awkward moment!
“I was sad for Conrad, but I was very happy that Belly was able to finally have this moment in her journey with Jeremiah where they talk about everything that’s happened and and how their relationship has changed, even just over this week that they’ve been reunited,” Tung tells EW. “I was grateful that they were able to take that step because it’s what both of them wanted in that moment, and they needed to be able to lean on each other.”
Tung doesn’t hold Belly responsible for Conrad’s distress. She highlights that Belly attempted to discuss their relationship seriously with him earlier, even though she didn’t realize he had fallen asleep. Tung gives credit to Belly for making the effort.
“I think that’s one thing that Belly had trouble with with Conrad, the communication aspect of it, so she feels safer and more heard in this relationship with Jeremiah,” Tung adds. “For her, it was a win.
Obviously seeing Conrad shocked was like, ‘Aw, sorry you were in the dark about this, buddy.’ But I think it was a good Belly-Jeremiah moment.”
“Belly struggled with communication with Conrad, so she feels more secure and understood in her relationship with Jeremiah,” Tung explains. “For her, it was a positive outcome. Although seeing Conrad surprised was a bit unfortunate, I believe it was a significant moment for Belly and Jeremiah.”
