Ted Cruz Declares War on Barbie, Calls a Propaganda
Ted Cruz continues to criticize the Barbie movie, calling it ‘Chinese communist propaganda,’ even though he hasn’t watched it.
For weeks, the Texan senator has focused on a scene from a trailer displaying a world map of a disputed region in the South China Sea.
Cruz spoke to The Daily Signal in an interview: “There’s a scene in Barbie, where there is this map of the world, and it’s drawn like with crayon. I mean, it’s really a very simple cartoon. And so they have this blockish thing that is called ‘Asia.’ And then they’ve drawn what are called the nine-dashes.”
He was alluding to the “nine-dash line” utilized on Chinese maps, depicting their claimed territory within the South China Sea.
“This is Chinese communist propaganda in which the Chinese are asserting sovereignty over the entirety of the South China Sea,” Cruz continued. “And they don’t have any right to it under international law, but they are trying to take it away from their neighbors there.”
This isn’t the initial instance Cruz has leveled such accusations against the Barbie movie. Earlier this month, upon the release of the trailer, he accused the film of “promoting Chinese propaganda.”
“I mean it’s really a very simple cartoon, and so they have this block-ish thing that is called Asia and then they draw on what are called the “nine dashes” which is — this is Chinese communist propaganda,” Cruz spoke to The Daily Signal. “The Chinese are asserting sovereignty over the entirety of the South China Sea, and they don’t have any right to it under international law but they’re trying to take it away from their neighbors there. “
Senator Cruz is not the only one expressing dissatisfaction about the movie, even before its theatrical release. Vietnam has also banned the film and prohibit in the country due to the contentious nine-dash map controversy.
The wife of Florida Republican Rep Matt Gaetz also gave her opinion about the Greta Gerwig’s movie, “Thinking about watching the Barbie movie? I’d recommend sticking to getting outfit inspiration and skipping the theater,”
