Steve Martin and Martin Short revives ‘Saturday Night Live’ zeal for Season 48
Saturday Night Live is revived by Steve Martin and Martin Short. The show on Saturday with the comedians as hosts attracted 5.1M viewers, making it the most watched episode this season according to Neilson stats.
That represents an improvement over the previous week, when Keke Palmer hosted to a meagre audience of just 3.9M. Even better, the controversial Dave Chappelle hosting performance on December 10 outperformed the previous Season 48 high of 4.8M total views in November.
After a significant cast departure before the season began, SNL has had trouble regaining viewers; the first five episodes of Season 48 averaged just under 4 million viewers. Even Amy Schumer was unable to turn the sketch comedy show’s statistics around; on November 5, she managed to draw in only 4.3 million viewers and a 0.79 demo rating. The previous week, Jack Harlow’s dual role as host and musical guest attracted barely 4.1 million total viewers and a demo rating of 0.76.

In the 18-49 demographic, Season 48 is averaging a 1.22 rating after seven days of delayed viewing for each episode. Austin Butler will serve as the host and Lizzo will perform on the year’s final show, which will air on December 17.
The 2022 version of the 1991 movie The Father of the Bride that reunited Kieran Culkin with Short and Martin shocked viewers in the episode of December 10. Another sketch featured Short playing Ebenezer Scrooge in an R-rated adaptation of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol.
Saturday Night Live streams live on Peacock at 11:30 p.m. ET/8:30 p.m. PT in addition to the NBC broadcast.
