‘Pachinko’ takes home Gotham Award for Breakthrough Series

Pachinko (2022) from Apple TV+ won a trophy at this year’s Gotham Independent Film Awards in New York City on Monday.

It has become the second Korean series to win at the American awards gala. Netflix‘s Squid Game won the 2021 Gotham Awards.

Pachinko won in the Breakthrough Shows Long Form category which recognises series with episodes lasting more than 40 minutes. Netflix’s Mo took home award for Best Short Format Series.

The series debuted on March 25 is based on the same-titled novel by Korean-American novelist Min Jin Lee. It follows four generations of Zainichi Koreans who are ethnic Koreans in Japan.

A second season of the show has been confirmed.
