One Piece Rotten Tomatoes Score Breaks Down Netflix Curse
After the release of One Piece live-action adaptation, the Rotten Tomatoes score for the adaptation has been aggregated, and it appears to break a Netflix curse.
While critics have hailed Netflix’s version of One Piece, viewers have now given their reviews on Rotten Tomatoes following its streaming premiere. After aggregating over 2,500 user-submitted reviews, One Piece received a respectable 94% audience score, outperforming the show’s Certified Fresh 81% critic score.
In comparison to previous anime adaptations on Netflix, Death Note scored a critical score of 36% and an audience score of 23% in 2017, while Cowboy Bebop received a critical score of 46% and an audience score of 60% in 2021.
Netflix’s live-action adaptation of One Piece has not only change the streamer’s poor track record with anime adaptations but has set a new standard for future projects in this genre. Taking its time to delve into the early chapters of Luffy’s adventures, the series makes sure newcomers feel right at home while also offers subtle nod to the wider One Piece lore cherished by long-time fans.
One key to its success is the active involvement of the series’ creator, Eiichiro Oda. His impressive creative oversight ensures that live-action remains faithful to his vision, even going so far as to request reshoots to maintain the integrity of the beloved world he crafted.
The new series is available to watch on Netflix.
