National Cinema Day Returns to UK With £3 Tickets

This weekend marks the return of National Cinema Day in the UK for the second time, with major chains offering £3 tickets.

The event debuted in 2022, with over 600 theatres throughout the country, including big chains and smaller independent facilities, providing discounted tickets to mark the occasion. The event drew over 1.5 million visitors, more than three times the typical number for a regular day.

According to Variety, the simultaneous release of Barbie and Oppenheimer resulted in a significant increase in UK box office statistics in July.

Cinema First organizes National Cinema Day, which is backed by the Film Distributors’ Association and the UK Cinema Association.

Cinema First Chair Iain Jacob says, “There seems no better time than now to celebrate U.K. cinema-going, one of the nation’s favourite out-of-home leisure activities. Coming off of the back of recent successes and the huge profile they have given to the sector, we wanted to give everyone a chance to enjoy the big screen experience.”

He also added, “I am hugely grateful for the level of support shown by colleagues across the industry for National Cinema Day, which we very much hope will exceed last year’s very successful event, confirming the continued relevance of film in the lives of the cinema-going audience.”

Around some 550 cinema venues are set to celebrate cinema on September 3rd.
