Max Greenfield discusses what it would take for him to return for a New Girl reboot.
After seven seasons, the series came to an end in 2018 starring Zooey Deschanel, Max Greenfield, Jake Johnson, Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone.
The actor revealed that he might reprise his role as Winston Schmidt, but only under one condition. While speaking to E! News, Greenfield says, “I think if Liz [Meriwether] wanted to do it, who created the show, obviously, she thought there was some way back in, it would definitely be something I would be open to, but it’s tough.”
Given the effort that went into concluding the series, Greenfield expressed concerns about a reboot. “I thought Lisa Kudrow said something really insightful when they were doing the Friends reunion which was the writers worked really hard on wrapping it all up in a way that was hopefully satisfying to the audience and satisfying to these characters.”
He continued, “If you go back into it, it means you got to undo that, and that to me is argument enough to really question whether to go back or not. The other part of it is, ‘It wasn’t that long ago.'”
Deschanel also appeared to be unsure if the loft residents will ever be reunited. During her interview with AV Club, she said “I loved working with everyone and we just had such great writing on the show. I don’t know the answer, it feels like 50% here and 50% there, so I’m not really sure.”
