LOTR The Fellowship of the Ring: Warner Bros bring films-as-NFTs

The “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” (Extended Version) Web3 Movie Experience, will be released on Friday, October 21 at web3.wb.com, it is a collaboration between Warner Bros. Home Entertainment and blockchain company Eluvio. NFTs, which are distinctive identifiers that confirm ownership of digital property, is being used for the first time by a major studio to release a film.
Future releases are still to be decided, according to Warner Bros. Home Entertainment’s GM and EVP Jessica Schell. Fans will be able to purchase, sell, and exchange movie NFTs on the platform.

Each NFT includes a 4K copy of Peter Jackson’s first Lord of the Rings film, released in 2001, as well as behind-the-scenes material, a large number of stills, and exclusive materials drawn from the movie. The NFTs are being hosted by Eluvio on their Ethereum-compatible blockchain, and the tokens will go live tomorrow on a website.
Eluvio CEO Michelle Munson told Decrypt that “the core digital assets themselves, not just the token, reside on the blockchain.” All of the streaming you’ll see with the movie is allowed and distributed via blockchain, and they are both owned and attested to.
The Lord of the Ring: Rings of Power is streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
