The Killing Eve and Free Guy star, Jodie Comer, has commended the female backstage management team on her west end debut.
On Sunday, Comer took the best actress award for her performance in Suzir Miller’s play Prima Facie at the Olivier Awards which is equivalent to the Tony Awards.
During the award collection, she paid tribute to women backstage who ensured everyone felt safe and pleased during their work and made sure everyone was having fun. The award winner also said that she is still connected with the team through a Whatsapp group. “We call it the sisterhood because we just felt so close to each other.”
Jodie’s striking performance as an attorney who defends rapists is then herself sexually taken advantage of by her colleague, has won her best actress award including a statuette at the Olivier’s. After realizing the practical application of these legal issues, led to her being impressed by the legal system for sexual assault cases.
She further explains the play exploring the notion of reaching ‘’a legal truth’’ in court. “There is no real truth, only legal truth and the fact that the accused has the right to remain silent – it’s actually the victim who stands on trial and not the accused perpetrator. Those were things that I was really surprised by.”
Comer said that she sensed people striking conversations on Prima Facie and if television and theater can do that, it’s one of the best feelings and will make the show what it is.
