‘Homecoming’ earns $160 million at the Chinese Box Office

Homecoming dominated during the National Day Holiday week.

A depressed National Day vacation season ended with the patriotic rescue movie Homecoming dominating the Chinese Box Office throughout the recent weekend.

According to figures from consultant Artisan Gateway, Homecoming made $21.5 million from Friday to Sunday, bringing its ten-day total to $163 million. The weekend’s $30.3 million total was 71% attributed to that performance.

Only $2.2 million was made by the second-placed movie, “Ordinary Hero,” giving it a ten-day total of $19.7 million. Despite the barrage of brand-new films released on September 30 or October 1, the previous top-ranking picture, “Give Me Five,” managed to maintain the third position. Since its premiere on September 9, 2022, it has brought in a total of $60.8 million, or $1.7 million.

Holidays play a very significant role in the Chinese film business. However, they may not always coincide with customs elsewhere.

The $3.85 billion amount as of October 9, 2022, is more than 31% less than the $5.60 billion reached during the same period in the previous year, according to Artisan Gateway’s figures.
