Bournemouth sack Gary O’Neil after 37 games despite Premier League survival

Gary O’Neil assumed the role of caretaker manager in August and later secured an 18-month contract in November after guiding Bournemouth to a 15th-place finish in the Premier League last season. The club has announced that they will soon reveal a new manager. O’Neil took charge as interim head coach following the dismissal of Scott Parker in August and was subsequently awarded a long-term deal in November.

Under his leadership, Bournemouth accumulated 36 points and achieved a respectable 15th position in the Premier League. Leading many to consider him a strong contender for the Manager of the Year accolade. Bournemouth owner Bill Foley explained the decision by stating that the club has identified significant transfer targets. This change in direction will provide them with the best foundation for progress.

Bill Foley said

Gary will go on to have a long career as a head coach or manager, but we feel that, at this moment in time, a change is in the best interests of this football club. I would like to place on record my thanks to Gary and wish him all the best for the future
